During a particularly expansive point in my Reiki path I was given an old box of oil paints that had belonged to Andi’s grandfather. I had always enjoyed creative play and had wanted to sculpt as a child and loved clay and modelling at school. So when I opened this old box of crusty oils and found myself a board to start to smear on it was like a whole world opened up to me again, of tactile expression coupled with the explosion of understanding that came in the early Reiki path. I found myself pouring out my dreams and visions hidden within the landscapes I was finger painting. A lot of my early attempts were poor versions of a landscape but had within them amazing Reiki and shamanic dream and vision imagery. It amazed me at the time that some people only saw the crude landscape while others saw many more layers within the image. For a time I got lost in attempting to make the finger-painted landscapes and trees more realistic and professional in appearance but this practice stifled the real expression and my true aim. Like being in a trance and allowing the subconscious or higher self or past lives to come forwards into form the art was a way to gain access to something untouchable within. It still is.
